Captain Henry Jackman is the eighth Equinox class bulk carrier to be constructed for Algoma Central Corporation. She is built to the maximum allowable dimensions for the Seaway. The Equinox class ships are significantly more efficient than their fleetmates, and are equipped with exhaust scrubber systems that remove 97% of sulfur oxide emissions. The Jackman was constructed to a modified version of the Equinox plans, dubbed “Equinox 3.0”, featuring twin rudders, lightweight aluminum hatch covers, increased cargo capacity, and a rearranged aft accommodations block.

Her Story
The new Captain Henry Jackman was ordered in early 2020 by Algoma Central Corp.. She is the tenth member of the Equinox class, and is of the 3.0 design, with modifications and improvements to the original gearless bulk carrier design. She was laid down at the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s Jingjiang City, China, shipyard, on September 20, 2020, with blocks prefabricated indoors. The Jackman was launched on December 25, 2020, and delivered to Algoma Central Corp. on April 5, 2021. She begun her trip to Canada on April 29, passing through the Panama Canal on June 8 and arriving at Montreal on June 18, 2021. She sailed up the Seaway to Hamilton, ON, a few days later for final fit out.
Captain Henry Jackman sailed on her maiden voyage to Thunder Bay, ON, to load grain following fit-out, and passed through the Soo Locks on July 12, 2021.
