The CSL Welland was constructed as a self-unloading bulk carrier for Canada Steamship Lines. She is built to the maximum allowable dimensions for the Seaway.
The CSL Welland was the second of CSL’s Trillium Class gearless bulk ships to be constructed. The Trillium class ships featured highly automated systems and greater fuel efficiency and capacity than their other CSL fleetmates. Her self-unloading sisters Baie St. Paul {2}, Thunder Bay {3}, Whitefish Bay {2}, and Baie Comeau {2} entered service the year before, and the her gearless Trillium sister CSL St-Laurent entered service in 2015.

Her Story
The CSL Welland was constructed in 2014 by Yangfan Shipbuilding Group of Zhoushan, China, as a gearless bulk carrier for Canada Steamship Lines. The Welland was constructed as a member of the Trillium class, being the first Trillium class gearless bulk carrier and the second to last member of the class constructed. She arrived in Canada on January 2, 2015, and entered service at the opening of the 2015 season in March.
The CSL Welland continues to be an active member of the Canada Steamship Lines fleet, serving the ore and grain trades.
